DR. MARAVANJI S. BALAKRISHNA
Maravanji S. Balakrishna received his BSc and MSc degrees in Chemistry from the University of Mysore, Karnataka, India. After completing his PhD from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, he did postdoctoral research at the University of Alberta (Canada) and Tulane University (USA). He joined as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry and is currently a Senior Lecturer in Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai, India. He spent a sabbatical year at the University of Calgary (in the lab of Prof. Chiver), Canada. His research interests span the areas of Main Group Chemistry, Transition Metal Organometallic Chemistry, and Homogeneous Catalysis. He has authored or co-authored over 240 research papers, five book chapters, and also edited a book on Copper(I) Chemistry of Phosphines, Functionalized Phosphines, and Phosphorus Heterocycles for Elsevier. He has contributed significantly to the teaching of chemistry by conducting 200 video lectures and has also given over 500 invited lectures. He has guided 28 PhD students, several graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
