DR. HIRAM ISAAC BELTRÁN CONDE
Professor Beltrán studied for a degree in Industrial Chemical Engineering with a specialization in Environmental Engineering from 1993 to 1998 at the Escuela Superior de Ingeniería Química e Industrias Extractivas (ESIQIE) of the IPN. He carried out his doctoral work from 1998 to 2002 in the Department of Chemistry at CINVESTAV, where he studied the incorporation of the elements boron and tin into molecular structures with biological importance since they contain fragments derived from amino acids, aminoalcohols and aminophenols. Due to this research he was awarded the 2003 Arturo Rosenblueth Prize for the best Doctoral Thesis in the area of Exact and Natural Sciences at CINVESTAV. In 2003, he joined the Molecular Engineering Program of the Mexican Petroleum Institute (IMP) as a postdoctoral fellow, carrying out projects related to Applied Chemistry at the industrial level, where he remained until 2005. In that same year he joined the Institute of Chemistry of the UNAM as an Associate Researcher, where he developed structure-activity studies of organometallic tin compounds. Since August 2006, he is a Professor-Researcher in the Department of Natural Sciences, Division of Natural Sciences and Engineering (DCNI) of the UAM, Cuajimalpa Unit. Since April 2018, he has been assigned to the Department of Basic Sciences, DCBI, in the Azcapotzalco Unit of the UAM.
His scientific production includes 91 research articles and 8 dissemination articles, 13 national and international patents, 6 book chapters, a chapter included in the encyclopedia Comprehensive Heterocyclic Chemistry and another chapter in the book Tin Chemistry: Fundamentals, Frontiers and Applications (Wiley) Ed. M. Gielen, A.G. Davies, K. Panell, E. Tiekink. To date, he has directed 32 undergraduate theses and undergraduate terminal projects, 1 specialization thesis, 12 master's theses (ICR) and 10 doctoral theses. He is currently directing 2 doctoral theses, 6 master's theses and 8 bachelor's terminal projects, much of the above in co-direction with academic staff from the DCBI of the Azcapotzalco Unit, DCNI of the Cuajimalpa Unit, and DCBS of the Xochimilco Unit.
